Journeys

European cycling journey: In 2015, Dusty solo-cycled across 13 countries in Western Europe during the fall and winter, covering 2,500 miles in three months. He predominantly slept in his tent along the, sometimes just spreading out his sleeping bag in roadside bushes. Along the way, he stopped in Spain for three weeks to earn my skydiving license.

All Hands and Hearts: Dusty volunteered twice with All Hands and Hearts, a disaster relief organization, once in the Florida Keys in 2017 and again in the Virgin Islands in 2018. Through these experiences, he gained a firsthand understanding of the importance of helping others in need, especially if the only reward is a sense of fulfillment and gratitude.

Armenia: In late 2020, Dusty traveled alone to Armenia, a country at war over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. There, he met a soldier named Sam who had fought in the trenches and survived the war. Together, with the support of Dusty’s friends and family, they completed renovations on Sam’s house to operate as a bed and breakfast, and used leftover funds to feed families affected by the war. Dusty and Sam remain friends to this day.

50 states in 50 days: In the summer of 2021, Dusty embarked on a 50 States in 50 Days solo road trip of the United States, covering all 50 states in his 2004 Chrysler minivan. As part of his journey, he interviewed at least one person per day in each state and shared the interviews on his podcast and social media pages. Additionally, Dusty ran 7 marathons during the trip, completing one for each week of the journey, from Mystic to Maui.

Peru/Bolivia: Dusty has spent a total of 8 months in the Peruvian Andes and 3 months backpacking solo in Bolivia since 2021. During his time in Peru, Dusty was busy teaching yoga, running ultramarathons, and diving into psychedelics while also writing and podcasting. He has traveled to Peru five times since his first visit in April 2021, and the country has felt like  home to him for the past two years.

Dakota Pure Bison

This week we take to the zero degree prairie to record with Scott Assman of Dakota Pure Bison; two South Dakota ranch families coming together to provide customers with the highest quality, premium bison meat on the market. Scott and I setup the recording studio out in the pasture amongst a few hundred of Dakota Pure’s herd of American Buffalo. A one of a kind podcast episode indeed!

Dr. Brian Lemper, DO- Pain Management and Regenerative Medicine Specialist

This week I sat down with Dr. Brian Lemper, DO. Dr. Lemper is a Board Certified physician. He completed a Fellowship in Pain Management by the American Board of Anesthesiology and he operates a regenerative medicine clinic in Las Vegas called Nevada Inter-Cellular Exchange or the NICE clinic. Dr. Lemper is an expert in the field of Regenerative Orthopedic Medicine. We covered a wide range of topics including several options for therapy using regenerative medicine (platelet-rich plasma, amniotic fluid, exosomes, cord blood, and Wharton’s jelly), COVID-19 vaccinations and mask mandates, promoting healthy lifestyles, aliens, government subsidized broccoli, and more.

Santa Cruz Trail Trek

Dustin, The Wind BONUS EPISODE! Over the weekend I hiked 40+ miles through the Santa Cruz trail in Parque Nacional Huascaran. The trail weaves through the park passing through subtropical canyons, many waterfalls, surrounded by snow capped peaks (many of which tower over 16,000 ft), alpine lakes, wide open flower filled valleys. On the third day, starting from Cashapaumpa, the trail leads you over Punta Union pass at 15,670 ft. Altitude sickness is not to be trifled with and there were a few moments when I thought I was a deadman- not to be too dramatic. My diaries include my gear list pros and cons, paying heed to others opinions, details of the hike and trail, a morning spent in the mountain village of Vaqueria learning to make Choclo (local snack/popcorn), and lot of me bitching about altitude sickness!

Campfire thoughts on FIRE, DEATH, AFTERLIFE

This week I chat it up with one you in my usual one sided conversation! I share notes that I typed out over 2 nights sitting next to a campfire in the Idaho mountains. In the notes I ask a lot of questions about death, spirituality, after life, meaning of life, the gift of fire and more. I also attempt to relate my thoughts on Michael Pollan’s #1 NYT best selling book, “In Defense of Food” and relate that book along with another of his which I recently read “This Is Your Mind On Plants” to a recent news story I stumbled upon out of India involving the burning of millions of dollars worth of rhino horns. Enjoy!!!
